In this instance the Muscat Travertine has been honed smooth and left with a perfect matt finish. The travertine tiles are cut into runs of 406 mm, before being chopped down into random lengths. Finally, the look of the floor is transformed by cushioning the edges of the tiles.
As you can see in the images, a cushioned edge is a slight taper downwards around the edge of a tile. The quarries grind the travertine to shape the stone, before sanding it smooth again to match the top of the stone. The result is a seamless smooth reduction in heigh of the tile by just a few millimeteres which creates a worn feel without having to chip the edges of the stones. The floor would suit a variety of setting and will lend itself to use in a classic modern design, as well as a more rustic specification.
